This seal's applications are for the split transfer case front shaft output seal, and for the earlier production 4 speed split case intermediate seal which seals between the transmission and transfer case.
The dust lip will face forwards into the transmission, indicating proper installation orientation when used an an intermediate shaft seal (Transfer case input/transmission output).
This is a "T type" seal which means it has 2 sets of sealing lips; the double lips seal oil in and seal dirt out, or in the case of the intermediate seal, keeping oil in both the transmission and transfer case and resisting flow between the two.
You will notice that these types of seals have a "dust lip" that serves to provide additional protection against dirt intrusion when used as an output shaft seal.
