Grade 5 Head Gasket
This is the grade 5 gasket which is the thickest Toyota Factory gasket offered for this family of engines, and is commonly used as the ‘universal replacement’ if you are unsure of which one to use - even so, piston protrusion must be measured at each cylinder before installing this gasket to ensure there is no interference.

If you require a thicker gasket, there are a few possible solutions:
• The pistons can be topped (trimmed slightly at a machine shop) to allow for the clearance you need.
• If the problem is associated with removing material from the block or head, you can contact us to special order a head gasket shim which is 0.25mm thick.
• The final option is to order the aftermarket specially made Cometic Grade 7 head gasket - this gasket will allow for piston protrusions as follows:

GHPTO350G5 - Use for piston protrusions between 0.556 - 0.655mm
Gasket selection by Piston Protrusion for 1HZT / 1HDT
GHPTO350G5 - Use for piston protrusions between 0.626 - 0.725mm
To complete a head gasket replacement properly, you will need new head bolts and an upper end ‘VRS’ or Full Engine gasket set.
