Bearing that supports the injection pump drive gear and is fitted into the inner timing case at the front of of the engine.
This bearing is subject to wear, along with the fit into the related inner timing case.
If the bearing becomes loose in the casing, and the outer race starts to spin, the alignment of the bearing will change position and this may cause dramatic wear within the injection pump due to misalignment of the injection pump driveshaft. The misalignment in turn will cause the shaft support bushing inside the injection pump to wear rapidly, along with the pump drive shaft, and lead to injection pump failure.
When rebuilding your engine, or if you have the timing cases off, you should carefully check this bearing and its fit in the timing case. It may be worth considering securing the outer race of the bearing with a locking compound such as Loctite.
